Upper Falls

The most difficult falls to reach in Graveyard Fields, but not terribly so. The beautiful hike makes it well worth the trip.

Directions

Driving

From Asheville, take the Blue Ridge Parkway South past Mount Pisgah. The Graveyard Fields overlook is at milepost 418; park here.

Trail

The quickest way to this falls is to take the south side of the loop, located at the left of the parking area when facing the view. Go down the rock steps; the trail begins at the bottom. It's an easy descent with a few wet and rocky areas, along with a few boardwalks and footbridges. You'll reach the Yellowstone Prong and cross it on a new, sturdy bridge. Past this bridge, the trail goes through a campsite and reaches the junction with the other side of the loop. Go left. The trail begins ascending through woods and meadows - some parts are eroded and wet. The trail will soon begin a steadier, rocky climb before going up and over a large jumble of rocks and coming out at the base of the falls. Use caution if you cross the creek here some smaller cascades are downstream of where the trail comes out.
