Upper Catawba Falls
A beautiful free-fall, ending in a split cascade into a deep, clear pool.
Directions
Driving
There is currently no safe public access to this waterfall, but that is likely to change with the upcoming new trail proposed by the Forest Service. This is (luckily) a high priority for them, so I'd expect it in the next 1-2 years (as of spring 2012).
Trail
This falls can theoretically be reached by climbing up the scramble path from the lower falls. However, that equates more to technical climbing than hiking (think ropes and harnesses), and is NOT recommended, until a safer path is established. The Forest Service says it plans on developing a better trail in their Schedule of Proposed Actions, and the parking area has recently been completed, so hopefully this will pan out soon.
